Pécharmant vineyards
The 500-ha Pécharmant AOC area is the most ancient vineyard of the Bergerac region, not only regarding its age (dating from the XIth century), but also regarding its reputation and its prosperity.
Le vignoble de Bergerac
Laid out in south-facing hillsides, the Pécharmant area is also blessed with a great “terroir”. The distinctiveness of its terroir lies in the “Périgord sand and gravels” which derive from the slow transformations of granite rocks. Leached out on the surface, clay and iron were taken in-depth, forming a deep and impermeable ferrugineous-clay layer, which communicates to Pécharmant wines its authentic and typical taste.
Our wine: the “Château Les Farcies du Pech
Made up of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Cabernet Franc (30%) and Merlot (30%), the Château Les Farcies du Pech’ offers a powerful charm, and intense aromas. Our 10-ha vineyards consists out of 20-year old vines on average. The optimalisation of the leaf area, the rising-sun-side leaf plucking and the limitation of yields to 50 hL/ha favour a good sanitary state of the crop, and an excellent phenolic maturation. The traditional winemaking process is followed by a 12-month ageing in French oak barrels. The Cabernet varieties communicate a complex nose to this wine, where coffee, tobacco, cinnamon and black pepper is harmoniously blended. Ample and well structured, this Pécharmant has already pleasantly loosened up and filled up with time. The palate ends on a firm minerality due to the specific terroir, which gives a lot of personality to this wine.
This intense and deep red wine will form an ideal accompaniment to terrine dishes, roasted poultry, and cheese. “Les Farcies du Pech’” will be best enjoyed at 18°C. It has the structure to age gracefully for 5 to 15 years.
